A Business Invested in Giving Back

With the hustle and bustle of our busy lives, driving up to a gas station or running into a convenience store can feel like just another part of the daily grind.

However, if you pull into The PRIDE, you can expect far more than a mundane experience.

With 16 locations in the Chicagoland area, including locally in St. Charles, Geneva, Batavia, West Chicago, Elgin, and Aurora, The PRIDE Stores proudly selects communities that both share their values and offer convenience for their customers. Christina Taylor, Marketing Coordinator for The PRIDE Stores, shares that the owner "wanted to call all of our stores ‘The PRIDE’ to emphasize the fact we take great PRIDE in the stations we own and the communities that we are servicing. The goal was, and is today, to provide a friendly and positive experience every time a customer visits our stores by starting with a smile and ending with a thank you.”

What sets The PRIDE apart from its competitors is their commitment to freshness and quality, along with unique offerings at each store. The PRIDE offers three different restaurant concepts at various locations including Urban Counter, Taco Urbano, and The PRIDE Café. Taylor says, “We love surprising our customers with a quality offering they might not expect, not only with our décor, but with the products we offer. When a customer comes to one of our restaurants and is completely surprised that the food is made to order with quality ingredients inside a gas station or convenience store, it makes our day.”

Each location features a wide variety of conveniences and services, including their very own house-made nitro and cold brew coffees, and craft draft sodas.

Unique location details can be found on their website, thepridestores.com.

At their flagship location in St. Charles, a gas station, convenience store, and car wash are just the beginning. With one of their largest dinings areas, Urban Counter offers fresh, not frozen, half-pound seasoned steak burgers made with locally sourced ingredients. Their salads (a Stay + Play Local team favorite!) are prepared with the crispest, fresh lettuce and even some house-made dressing options.

Under the same roof, you will find The PRIDE Beer & Wine Plus Spirits, a boutique store curated with an expanded selection of hundreds of brands of signature craft beer, wine, and spirits. But that’s not all!

Cross the threshold into 93 Octane Brewery, serving up delicious American and German style craft beers, with a rotation of live music and a gorgeous patio to enjoy when weather conditions allow. “Not many gas stations can offer you a gourmet, fresh burger, house made craft soda, their own brand of craft beer in a variety of styles, AND give you access to top quality wines and spirits all under the same roof, but The PRIDE Stores can,” Taylor proudly says.

The PRIDE is a second generation family company started 40 years ago. Mario Spina, owner of The PRIDE Stores, originally left his family’s company to pursue an MBA. After graduating, he returned to the business to help out his father who was experiencing health issues. “He told his dad he would only stay on for a year or so until he was back on his feet,” Taylor explains. Well, over 20 years later, Mario is still with The PRIDE Stores and has now taken over ownership of the company.

In addition to keeping that family focus strong within the company, The PRIDE believes in giving back to the community. “Living Well, Folds of Honor, and Casa Kane County are the main charities we support,” Taylor says. Living Well is an organization that provides compassionate care that empowers, encourages, supports and provides hope to cancer patients and their families. “We donate a portion of every gallon of fuel sold to this organization to help them continue their cause.”

Folds of Honor provides educational scholarships to children and spouses of fallen and disabled service members. A portion of every cup of coffee sold and a portion of every four-pack of Wingman American Pale Ale sold by 93 Octane Brewery is given to this charity.

Casa Kane County advocates for children going through hard times and placed in the court system that need consistency and additional support. “We donate a portion of every PRIDE Grab and Go item sold to help fund their support. We also support other local charities and schools not only through donations but also through Spirit Pumps. This program wraps a specific dispenser with information regarding a certain cause, then we donate a portion of every gallon sold at that dispenser to that cause. It is great to not only provide a donation, but visibility to that organization,” Taylor concludes.

Be sure to follow The PRIDE Stores on their social media platforms below to learn about new offerings, beer releases, and specials. The PRIDE Beer & Wine Plus Spirits offers half-priced drafts every Monday and half-priced whiskey pours on Wednesdays. Available anytime, buy four bottles of wine or spirits and enjoy 10% off! When you visit, tag The PRIDE Stores’ socials and @StayAndPlay.TriCities on Facebook or Instagram in your adventures, or email your pictures to Info@StayAndPlayLocal.com to be entered in our #PhotoOfTheWeek competition.
