Sweet Treats for the Month of Love
Valentine’s Day is the perfect excuse to get in the kitchen and bake up or decorate store-bought treats for your sweetie! From cake pops, to pretzels, to dipped cookies – whatever the treat, I’m sure your Valentine will love the thought you put behind the baking or decorating.
Decorated Dipped Treats
Have a chocolate lover in your life? Then dip cake pops, marshmallows, pretzels, rice krispy treats, or even some drop cookies for a sweet homemade gift. For cake pops or dipped marshmallows, I like to use decorative paper straws since they are so fun and cute. For drop cookies, I like to dip half and add sprinkles or colored sugar (or a bit of both)!
To get dipping, you can use either colored candy melts or vanilla or chocolate almond bark. You can find candy melts at your local craft store and almond bark at the grocery store.
Chocolate for Melting
I tend to stick to almond bark for dipping, as I feel it’s smoother and easier to work with. You can use colored candy melts for a cute colored accent. If you do want to dip something in colored candy melts, like red or pink for Valentine’s Day, you can either add the colored candy melts to white almond bark or add a little shortening to help thin it out. If you’re using candy melts just to add a pop of color, then just melt as-is. And, don’t forget the sprinkles or colored sugars to complete the look!
Whichever chocolate you use, melt slowly in the microwave. Place your chocolate in a microwave-safe bowl and warm up slowly, in about 30 second increments, stirring in between until smooth. Once melted, take your baked treat and get dipping!
When dipping in chocolate, cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper so your treat doesn’t stick...and, added bonus...easy clean-up. Let your baked treat dry before removing. You can keep the treats on the counter until dried. Then wrap in a cute little gift bag, add a ribbon and there’s your sweet Valentine treat, ready for gifting.
I hope your Valentine enjoys the effort you put into your baked treats. To do some baking, feel free to check out FromScratchBaking.net for recipes. Happy Valentine’s Day!
